Stepping away for a while & why, but… I’ll be back!

I’m stepping away from the blog for a little while to be fully present on a trip abroad. Here’s why, and what comes next when I’m back.

I want to give you a heads-up before things go quiet around here.

This week will be my last stretch of posting for a while. I’m heading to Europe soon, and I’ve decided to do something I don’t always do well: be fully present. No drafts open on the laptop at night. No “let me just finish this one post.” I want to walk, look around, sit in a café, and enjoy this time for what it is.

That’s harder for me than it sounds. This blog has become part of my daily rhythm. Most days I’m in the terminal, breaking something in my lab, fixing it, and writing up what I learned so I won’t forget, and so maybe you won’t have to learn it the hard way. I love that work. But I’ve lived long enough to know that some moments don’t come around twice, and this trip is one of them.

When I get back, I’ll pick up where I left off. There’s a stack of half-finished drafts waiting for me, and I’ll start working through them right away.

I’ll also be honest about something else. I have surgery coming up in early December. Writing and tinkering help keep my mind off it, so expect a busy stretch between my return and that date. That’s partly for you and partly for me.

After the surgery, while I’m home recovering, I plan to come back more focused. I’ve been learning in a lot of directions at once: Python, AWS, reverse engineering, lab builds, security news. That’s been valuable, but I want to settle on a clearer path for where this blog and my own learning are going. When I’ve worked that out, I’ll share it here first.

Thank you to everyone who reads, comments, or just stops by. Writing in public keeps me honest, and knowing someone is on the other end makes it worth doing.

See you soon.
