I successfully installed Red Hat Enterprise Linux 10.2 in VMware Workstation on my Debian machine.
What I did:
- Downloaded the RHEL 10.2 boot ISO
- Created a new virtual machine in VMware
- Installed RHEL 10.2 using the Workstation software selection
- Registered the system with my Red Hat account during installation
- Set up a user account (lvydvy) with administrator rights
- Completed the first boot and reached the GNOME desktop
Current Status (as of now):
- OS: Red Hat Enterprise Linux 10.2 (Coughlan)
- Desktop: GNOME (Workstation edition)
- Key Software Installed:
- Visual Studio Code
- Python 3 + pip
- PyTorch (CPU)
- Ollama with llama3.2:1b model
- htop
- gnome-tweaks
- Git and basic development tools
What’s Working Well:
- The system boots and runs smoothly
- I have a full graphical desktop
- AI tools (PyTorch + Ollama) are set up
- VS Code is ready to use
What I should do next (Recommendations):
- Increase VM RAM to 6–8 GB for better performance
- Customize the desktop using gnome-tweaks
- Set up a better terminal (Zsh + Oh My Zsh)
- Install Firefox or other daily apps
